Acceptable Use Policy
What you may not do with Open Motives, so it stays safe and reliable for everyone, including the people you message.

Why this policy exists
Open Motives publishes, messages and automates on your behalf on platforms that other people use. Misuse can hurt those people, get your accounts banned and put the Service's access to those platforms at risk for every customer. This policy is part of our Terms of Service and applies to everyone who uses Open Motives, including your team, your clients, your API keys and your AI agents.
Unlawful and harmful content
Don't use Open Motives to create, publish, send or store content that:
- is illegal where you or the recipients are, or helps someone break the law;
- sexually exploits or endangers children, in any form;
- promotes terrorism or violent extremism, or threatens or incites violence;
- harasses, bullies, threatens or doxxes people, or attacks them for who they are;
- infringes someone else's copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- is fraudulent, deceptive or misleading, including fake reviews, fake endorsements, scams, phishing and impersonating people or brands;
- sells or promotes illegal or heavily regulated goods and services without following the rules that apply to them;
- contains malware or links to malware, or tries to steal credentials.
Spam and messaging
- Only message people who have agreed to hear from you or who contacted you first, as the law and each platform require. Honour opt-outs immediately; Open Motives records them and won't send to opted-out contacts, so don't try to get around that.
- Don't send unsolicited bulk messages, chain messages or messages with misleading senders or subjects.
- WhatsApp: start conversations only with approved templates, keep to the customer-service window for free-form replies, and follow the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy and Commerce Policy. Don't use WhatsApp for general-purpose AI chat: AI on WhatsApp must stay on your own business's support and services.
- SMS: follow carrier rules and the law (for example the TCPA in the US and A2P 10DLC registration), include opt-out options where required, and respect quiet hours.
- Email: follow anti-spam law (for example CAN-SPAM, PECR, the ePrivacy rules) when you send from connected mailboxes or workflows.
- Don't buy, rent or scrape contact lists to message.
Platform rules
Follow the rules of every platform you connect, including Meta's Platform Terms, Community Standards and advertising policies, the WhatsApp Business policies, TikTok's, X's, LinkedIn's, YouTube's, Pinterest's, Google's and Telegram's terms and developer policies. In particular, don't:
- create fake engagement (fake followers, likes, comments, reviews or views), coordinate inauthentic behaviour or use automation the platform forbids;
- post the same or near-identical content across many accounts to manipulate reach, or evade a platform's limits or bans;
- connect accounts you aren't authorized to manage;
- use Facebook Groups reminders to post in groups against their rules.
AI features
- Don't use AI features to generate content that this policy forbids, to deceive people about being a human when the law requires you to say they are talking to AI, or to impersonate real people.
- Don't create deepfakes of real people without their consent, or election or health misinformation.
- Don't try to make AI agents leak data, bypass approvals or attack other systems, and don't give AI agents tools or permissions you aren't allowed to give.
- Review AI output before relying on it for legal, medical, financial or other high-stakes decisions.
The Service itself
Don't:
- try to get into accounts, data or systems you aren't allowed to, or probe, scan or test the Service's security without our written permission (see our security policy for how to report vulnerabilities);
- disrupt or overload the Service, get around rate limits, plan limits or caps, or use the API in ways that harm other customers;
- create several organizations or accounts to get more free plans or trials;
- scrape the Service or copy it to build a competing product;
- resell or give access to the Service except as the Terms allow (for example to your own clients as an agency);
- use short links or link-in-bio pages to hide where a link really goes, or to send people to harmful sites.
Your clients and members
If you are an agency or give others access (members, clients, API keys, AI agents), you are responsible for making sure they follow this policy too.
What happens if this policy is broken
We may remove or disable content, stop messages, pause features (such as sending, publishing or AI), revoke API keys, or suspend or close accounts. We will usually tell you first and give you a chance to fix things, but we may act immediately when there is serious harm, a legal requirement or a risk to the Service or to other customers. We may report illegal content to the authorities and cooperate with platforms investigating abuse.
Reporting abuse
To report misuse of Open Motives, write to [Contact email: not set (LEGAL_CONTACT_EMAIL)] with as much detail as you can.
