How to delete your data
How to remove Open Motives's access to your Facebook, Instagram, Google and other accounts, and how to delete your data.
If you have an account
Disconnect a social or messaging account. In Open Motives, open the workspace's settings, go to Connected accounts, pick the account and choose Disconnect. This deletes the access token we stored for it (and asks the platform to revoke it where the platform supports that), the posts that were only for that account, and the account's messages, comments and analytics in Open Motives. Contacts you created stay in your workspace until you delete or erase them.
Remove our app on the platform too (optional). You can also remove Open Motives's access from the platform's side:
- Facebook and Instagram: in Facebook go to Settings & privacy → Settings → Business integrations (or Apps and websites), select the app and remove it. In Instagram, use Settings → Website permissions → Apps and websites.
- Google and YouTube: go to Google's security settings page and remove the app.
- TikTok, X, LinkedIn, Pinterest and others: remove the app in the platform's own "connected apps" settings.
Removing the app on the platform stops all access at once. The data already in Open Motives stays until you disconnect the account there or delete your account.
Delete your whole account. Go to Settings → Your data → Delete account. Client-portal users choose "Delete my login" at the bottom of the portal (we email them a one-time code to confirm it is them). What happens next, in three steps:
- Waiting period (7 days). You are signed out everywhere at once. Until the date shown on the page and in the email we send you, you can keep your account by signing in again or with the link in that email.
- Closed (60 days). After the waiting period your account is closed: nobody can use it, you get no emails or notifications from it, and your teammates no longer see you as an active member. We keep your data during this time only so that you can change your mind: sign in with your password (and two-factor, if you use it) and choose to restore your account, or ask our support team. A client-portal login can be restored by the team you work with or by our support team. We don't use the data of a closed account for anything else.
- Deleted. 60 days after your account was closed, your account and personal data are deleted for good, unless you restored it before then. We send a confirmation to your email address.
Organizations where you are the only member are kept with your account while it is closed and deleted with it at the end; if other people are in your organization, you leave it and they keep the work you shared with them (if you are its only owner, hand ownership to someone else first). You can download a copy of your data first under Settings → Your data → Export.
If you want your data deleted sooner than this, write to us (see "Ask us" below).
Delete a whole organization. Organization owners can delete the organization from the organization's settings. It is removed after 14 days, in which an owner can still cancel. Owners can export everything first.
Choose shorter retention. Organization owners and admins can have old conversations, unused files, inactive contacts, workflow history and AI usage details deleted automatically under Organization → Data retention.
If you contacted a business that uses this service
If you sent a message, comment or review to a business, or chatted on its website, that business controls your data and decides how long to keep it. Please ask the business to delete it; its team can erase your contact record and the content of your conversations in Open Motives. If you can't reach the business, write to us and we will pass your request on.
Ask us
You can also email [Contact email: not set (LEGAL_CONTACT_EMAIL)] from the address of your account (or with the Facebook, Instagram or other account name it is about) and say what you want deleted. We confirm when it is done, within 30 days. Deleted data can't be brought back from the app. Copies in our encrypted backups are not changed one by one; they disappear as those backups expire on their regular schedule, and until then we don't use them except to recover from a failure.
More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
