Cookie Policy
The few cookies and browser storage items Open Motives uses, and why there are no tracking cookies.
On this page
In short
Open Motives uses only cookies that are needed to sign you in, keep your session secure and recognise devices you have used before. There are no advertising cookies, no third-party analytics and no tracking pixels, in the app or in the emails we send. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, we don't ask for consent to them; you can still block or delete them in your browser, but then you can't sign in.
This page covers the Open Motives app (including the sign-in pages, the client portal, the help pages and these legal pages). Our marketing website may use other cookies and has its own notice.
Cookies
| Name | What it does | How long | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
sessionid |
Keeps you signed in and holds your session (for example the sign-up step you are on). Sent only over HTTPS and not readable by scripts. | Up to 14 days | Strictly necessary |
csrftoken |
Protects forms against cross-site request forgery. | 1 year | Strictly necessary |
messages |
Carries a one-off message to the next page, such as "Settings saved". | Until you close the browser | Strictly necessary |
lb_known_device |
A signed value that tells us this browser has signed in to your account before, so we don't email you a "new sign-in" alert every time. It contains no personal details. | 400 days | Security (strictly necessary) |
Signing in with Google takes you to Google, which uses its own cookies under Google's policies. Paying for a plan takes you to the payment provider's checkout and billing pages, which use that provider's cookies: Stripe's cookie policy, Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy or Paddle's privacy policy.
Browser storage
The app also keeps a few small items in your browser's local and session storage. They never leave your browser and are not used to track you:
| Item | What it does |
|---|---|
| Sidebar and menu preferences | Remembers whether you collapsed the sidebar or a menu section. |
| Inbox cache | Shows a conversation you opened recently instantly while the latest version loads. Limited in size, kept per person and workspace, and cleared when you sign out. |
| Offline and sync markers | Lets the installed app (PWA) know when it last synced. |
| Focus position | Puts keyboard focus back where it was after a page reloads (accessibility). |
Your colour theme (light, dark or system) is saved with your account, not in a cookie.
The website chat widget
Businesses can add the Open Motives chat widget to their own websites. The widget sets no cookies. It keeps a visitor token and the conversation in the browser's local storage on that website, so the visitor's chat continues when they move between pages, and it remembers which automatic greetings it has already shown. The business that runs the website is responsible for telling its visitors about the chat in its own privacy or cookie notice.
Links and link-in-bio pages
Short links and link-in-bio pages count clicks per day. They set no cookies; a visitor's IP address is held briefly in memory only to ignore repeated clicks.
Emails
Our emails contain no tracking pixels and no tracked links: we don't record whether you open an email or which links you click.
Managing cookies
You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings. If you block the strictly necessary cookies, you can't sign in to Open Motives. Deleting lb_known_device only means your next sign-in from that browser may trigger a "new sign-in" email.
